Trouble continues to mount for Skypins Tours and Travel, a company owned by popular socialite and travel agent Christian Asiimwe, famously known as Don Chris, as over 350 Ugandans have filed complaints alleging fraud with claims now totaling over Shs1.4 billion.
According to the Uganda Police Force, victims claim they paid huge sums of money for travel and job opportunities abroad, only to be left in limbo with no visas or refunds.
“We’ve so far registered more than 350 formal complaints involving around 1.4 billion shillings,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
But Some Say They Actually Traveled…
Interestingly, police also noted that at least seven individuals have confirmed they successfully traveled abroad through Skypins, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
This has made it difficult for investigators to conclusively label the company as fraudulent, at least until Don Chris comes forward to explain himself.
“It’s only fair to hear his side before jumping to conclusions. We urge Don Chris to report to the authorities and record a statement,” Police added.
Public Opinion Divided
Social media is buzzing, with some calling Skypins a classic scam, while others insist Don Chris was legit but got overwhelmed by demand.
