Tension is rising within the Buganda Kingdom as clan chiefs (Bataka) have reportedly defied a direct order from Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II to halt all developments on a piece of land worth $2.5 million (approximately UGX 9 billion) that was given to them by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The land, initially intended for the construction of offices for the clan heads of Buganda, has become a source of conflict after the Kabaka expressed displeasure over the developments proceeding without his knowledge or approval.
In response, the Kabaka directed Joyce Ssebugwawo and Yusuf Mbirozankya to present all relevant documents to his office and immediately stop all ongoing construction activities.
However, sources indicate that the clan chiefs have defied these orders and continue with the development plans.

The ongoing construction is reportedly being handled by the UPDF Engineering and Construction Brigade, with preparations underway to receive President Museveni for a groundbreaking ceremony.
Reports suggest that the new building will be larger and taller than Masengere, a prominent structure belonging to the Buganda Kingdom.
Additionally, Minister Nabosa Ssebugwawo recently held a meeting with SFC commanders who assessed the security situation in the area and laid out measures ahead of the President’s visit next month.
During a separate meeting with the Bataka at State House Entebbe, Omutaka Walusimbi Mbirozankya, the head of the Ffumbe clan, praised President Museveni for ensuring peace in Uganda and the region.
The President responded by pledging UGX 200 million to support the Bataka Sacco, following complaints of financial struggles among the clan chiefs.
This development highlights the growing friction between the Buganda Kingdom’s leadership and the Bataka, with questions arising about the implications of the clan chiefs’ defiance.
