The organizers of the ongoing CHAN competition have banned Ugandan fans from wearing customized jerseys with funny comments on the back.
Over the past weeks, it had become a trend for fans to show up at stadiums in jerseys branded with TikTok catchphrases, viral slang, and humorous remarks.
However, the Local Organizing Committee ruled that such attire is “inconsistent with the values of the competition.”
Speaking at the Uganda Media Center, committee member Dianah Nabuuso said:
“Whoever wears a jersey with a catchphrase from TikTok, viral slang, or any branded content that disrespects the public image will be stopped at the gate.”
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some saying the ban kills the fun, while others argue it preserves the tournament’s dignity.
