The Court of Appeal has upheld the 12-year and three month prison sentence given to Godfrey Wamala, commonly known as Troy, for the killing of beloved Ugandan music icon Moses Ssekibogo, widely known as Mowzey Radio.
A panel of judges unanimously dismissed Wamala’s appeal, confirming that the trial court correctly evaluated the evidence that led to his conviction.
Wamala had contested both the conviction and sentence, claiming the prosecution’s case was full of inconsistencies and arguing that the 14-year sentence (later reduced due to time spent on remand) was too harsh.
However, the appellate court found the evidence to be solid and credible, leading to the decision to maintain the original ruling.
With the appeal dismissed, Wamala will continue serving his sentence at Luzira prison until the full term is completed a somber reminder of the tragic loss of one of Uganda’s most talented voices.
