Celebrated Ugandan chef and digital personality Mama D has finally been discharged from hospital after a challenging delivery journey that took both an emotional and financial toll.
Originally planning a 3 million UGX budget for her childbirth, Mama D rushed to TMR Naalya where she had been receiving regular checkups after experiencing early labor signs.
Unfortunately, things quickly took a complicated turn. She was diagnosed with eclampsia, and a C-section became inevitable. On top of that, a liver condition threatened her newborns, risking jaundice, and her babies had to be admitted to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).
These medical emergencies saw her hospital bill skyrocket from 3M to a staggering 18M UGX.
With mounting pressure and emotional distress, Mama D’s online community on X (formerly Twitter) rallied behind her in a donation campaign.
Despite criticism and judgment from some users, the campaign eventually gained traction and successfully raised the funds needed to clear her bill.
Now out of hospital and reunited with her babies, Mama D’s story is one of resilience, community support, and the power of digital solidarity.
We wish her and her little ones continued health and happiness.
