Omala is fondly remembered for his humorous remarks during the “Walk to Work” protests when he was deployed at Dr. Kizza Besigye’s home in Kasangati.
Despite his firm approach, Omala was never brutal — he ensured Besigye remained under preventive arrest but never ordered violence against journalists who were stationed in Kasangati for long periods.
He rose through the police ranks during this period and was always grateful to the media, particularly #NTVPointBlank, for bringing him into the public eye.

After retiring from the police, Omala worked with a private security company. However, his health later declined, and he openly asked for forgiveness from anyone he might have wronged during his service.
As his condition worsened, his family struggled to cover the heavy dialysis bills that kept him alive. After his story was aired publicly, the Uganda Police Force stepped in to pay his medical expenses until his passing.
Rest in peace, musajja wa Kabaka.
