Outspoken political commentator Frank Gashumba has thrown shade at Uganda’s entire music industry, claiming that all Ugandan musicians are local and lack the global reach seen in other African countries.
While speaking during a media appearance, Gashumba didn’t hold back:
“All our musicians are local. Their music ends at Nateete and Kyengera. You won’t tell them the truth because you fear them”
No Global Impact?
He continued to criticize how Ugandan artists claim to be international stars, yet only perform for Ugandans living abroad:
“When they go to London, they perform in East London for Ugandans. Tell me one Ugandan artist that has filled the O2 Arena like the Nigerians.”
The comment has stirred debate online, with some agreeing that Ugandan music lacks global presence, while others defend local stars like Eddy Kenzo, Bobi Wine, and Spice Diana for flying the flag internationally even if not yet at O2 Arena level.
