The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially dropped the controversial new league format that had sparked outrage among fans and clubs across the country.
Effective immediately, the Uganda Premier League will revert to its traditional home-and-away format, which many fans and stakeholders have described as fairer and more competitive.
FUFA President Moses Magogo confirmed the decision, noting that the federation will use the next one year to sensitize and engage stakeholders about the previously proposed “new format” before reconsidering its implementation.
“We will use this coming year to explain the new format in detail to the public and key stakeholders. Unfortunately, it was misunderstood and rejected too early,” said Magogo.
The dropped format had faced widespread criticism from clubs, especially Vipers SC, and led to a noticeable decline in stadium attendance this season.
Fans have since welcomed FUFA’s decision, calling it a “victory for Ugandan football.”
