Gen. Kainerugaba Inspects Hoima City Stadium, Urges High Standards Ahead of AFCON 2027
The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has carried out an inspection of the Hoima City Stadium, one of Uganda’s key venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The modern 20,000-seat stadium—being constructed by Turkish company Summa—is among the three facilities Uganda will use as co-hosts with Kenya and Tanzania.
During the visit, Gen. Kainerugaba toured several sections of the project, including the semi-Olympic swimming pool, changing rooms, training pitch, and a 2,000-seat indoor arena. He was accompanied by project manager Murat Altun and Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang.

Minister Ogwang commended Gen. Kainerugaba for his hands-on monitoring of the project, noting that his involvement has helped resolve challenges and keep construction on track. He emphasized the need to maintain high standards to ensure all national sports projects meet international requirements.
The Hoima City Stadium is expected to stimulate economic activity in the region and strengthen Uganda’s readiness for hosting continental football. With preparations underway, fans hope the facility will give the Uganda Cranes a strong home-ground advantage during the 2027 tournament.
