Outspoken singer Nandor Love, best known for her hit “Mpologoma,” has thrown shade at fellow Ugandan artists who choose to sing primarily in English, instead of embracing local languages and sounds.
Speaking during an interview with Galaxy TV, Nandor didn’t mince her words:
“We have musicians who sing a lot of English. They should go and sing from America. Uganda is for Luganda, Lugisu, Runyankole not foreign accents.”
When told that many local artists sing in English to appeal to international audiences, Nandor Love remained firm and unimpressed, doubling down on her opinion:
“If they want to go international, they should just go and sing in America, which is international”
Debate Ignited: Language vs. Global Ambition
Nandor’s blunt take has sparked a wave of mixed reactions across social media. Some fans agree that staying rooted in local languages preserves Ugandan identity, while others argue that English is a stepping stone to global exposure.
