Kasubi Tombs Renovation Completed, Confirms Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has announced the successful completion of the renovation works at the historic Kasubi Tombs. The restoration project, which began in 2014, has cost a total of UGX 13 billion.
The Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hold deep cultural significance as the burial grounds of Buganda kings. The renovation aimed to restore the site after it was destroyed by a fire in 2010.

According to the Katikkiro, the project has been completed with careful attention to traditional architectural standards and cultural preservation. He noted that the restored site will soon be opened to the public.
The Buganda Kingdom has thanked all partners, well-wishers, and supporters who contributed to the long-term restoration process. The completion marks an important milestone in safeguarding Uganda’s cultural heritage.
