Martha Karua
Prominent Kenyan lawyer and former Justice Minister Martha Karua has revealed that she was deported from Tanzania, allegedly to prevent her from attending the court case of Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu.
Karua, along with two colleagues who were also reportedly detained and deported, had flown into Tanzania from Kenya. As of now, Tanzanian authorities have not provided any official explanation for the deportation.
Lissu, the leader of Tanzania’s main opposition party Chadema, is set to appear in court on Monday, facing treason charges brought against him last month.

Martha Karua, known for her strong stance on human rights and democracy, has been an outspoken critic of what she describes as “democratic backsliding” in East Africa.
Her deportation raises concerns about freedom of expression and political rights within the region.
