The Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemwogerere, has sparked discussion after boldly advising women to leave men who are not willing to officially commit to them through marriage.
Speaking during a recent sermon, the Archbishop said, “If the man you are dating or illegally married to is not willing to put a ring on you, leave him now instead of dying as a sinner.”
His message was directed at women who remain in long-term relationships or cohabiting arrangements without formal commitment.

The Archbishop emphasized the importance of holy matrimony in the Christian faith and warned against normalizing relationships that do not honor God.
The statement has drawn both praise and criticism online, with some applauding the cleric for standing firm on moral teachings, while others felt the message placed too much pressure on women alone.
Regardless, Archbishop Ssemwogerere’s remarks have reignited debate around commitment, faith, and modern relationships in Uganda.
