After more than a decade off the airwaves, Makerere University Radio popularly known as Campus FM has officially resumed broadcasting, marking the end of a 14-year hiatus.
The station was shut down in 2009 after the university failed to clear its annual licence fees of UGX 3 million, which eventually accumulated to about UGX 15 million.

Its long-awaited return has been met with excitement from students, alumni, and the wider media fraternity, as Campus FM was once a vital platform for training journalism students and promoting campus life.

The revival of the station is part of Makerere’s renewed effort to strengthen its mass communication and media programs, giving students hands-on experience in broadcasting and digital storytelling.
The relaunch signals a fresh chapter for the university’s media presence a return to nurturing Uganda’s next generation of journalists and media professionals.
