Former Leader of Opposition and ex-NUP Deputy President Mathias Mpuuga Nsaba has taken a bold political step by officially unveiling his new political party, the Democratic Front (DF).
According to credible reports, the Electoral Commission (EC) has approved the renaming of the Green Partisan Party to Democratic Front, following Mpuuga’s formal request.
This move comes after months of political tension and public fallout with his former party, the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Mpuuga’s split from NUP came after he was accused of receiving over Shs 500 million from government a payment critics within the party claimed violated NUP’s strong stance on zero tolerance to corruption.
Following immense pressure from party loyalists and senior members, Mpuuga was publicly shamed and stripped of some of his roles.
Feeling sidelined and humiliated, Mpuuga chose to walk away and forge a new path.

His new party, Democratic Front, is expected to position itself as a fresh voice in Uganda’s opposition politics, although it remains unclear how many followers will join his movement.
With the 2026 general elections slowly drawing closer, DF’s entry into the political landscape adds a new dimension to the opposition block, and all eyes will be on Mpuuga to see how he builds his party from the ground up.
