Singer Mikie Wine has spoken out after a heated dispute with legendary artist Ragga Dee over the re-doing of his classic hit Nkuguddemu Oyagala Sente.
According to Mikie Wine, he had personally met Ragga Dee at Café Javas, Lugogo By-pass, where he handed him money as an appreciation and agreement before heading to the studio to remake the song.
However, to his shock, Ragga Dee later accused him of copyright infringement, saying Mikie Wine had gone ahead to redo the song without proper consent and that it was a sign of disrespect.
Mikie Wine expressed surprise at the accusations, insisting that he acted in good faith and had even involved Ragga Dee directly by offering him money before starting the project.
The clash has now sparked a wider conversation about intellectual property rights in Uganda’s music industry, with fans divided some supporting Ragga Dee’s stance on copyright, while others believe Mikie Wine did the right thing by recognizing and compensating the original artist.
