President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has once again hinted at extending his stay in power, saying he is stepping forward to lead the Bazukulu (youth) and their parents for another five years this time with a firm focus on wiping out corruption.
In a public statement, the long-serving head of state said:
“I have decided to come forward and see how to escort the Bazukulu and their parents forward for another five years. And in this time, I want us to really wipe out corruption because this corruption shouldn’t be there.”
A New Term, A New War?
With the 2026 general elections fast approaching, Museveni’s remarks are being seen as a clear signal of his intention to run again, despite already serving for nearly four decades.
While critics argue that previous promises to fight corruption haven’t yielded lasting results, supporters say this could mark a serious new chapter in Uganda’s governance.
