Nelson Tugume
In a passionate call to action, Inspire Africa CEO Nelson Tugume has emphasized the urgent need for African nations particularly Uganda to move beyond the “raw material mentality” and begin tapping into the global value chain.
Tugume highlighted that while the global coffee industry is valued at over $460 billion, Uganda earns only a fraction less than $1 billion—from its exports.
“I want the African race to get away from the raw material mentality that we’ve been having as a country.
Out of the $460 billion coffee value around the world, Uganda should at least be able to earn $5 billion,” Tugume stated.

He further pointed out that in many parts of the world, governments actively support the private sector to drive economic growth and innovation.
Unfortunately, corruption and inefficiencies in Uganda’s planning sectors have stifled this progress.
Tugume’s Inspire Africa Group is leading by example in building sustainable value-added businesses across sectors.
Many believe the initiative deserves more support and funding to transform Uganda’s economic trajectory.
