Pallaso
Musician Pius Mayanja, popularly known as Pallaso, has responded to the recent remarks by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, who stated that the Kabaka never officially bestowed the title “Sir” upon him.
Speaking in an interview, Pallaso took a respectful yet assertive tone, saying it’s important to understand the cultural workings of the Buganda Kingdom.
He explained that within the traditions of Buganda, the Kabaka does not have to formally declare everything; instead, whatever the Kabaka does is understood to be by his pleasure.
“The Kabaka pleases to do anything he does. If he uses a certain road, we say he pleased to use it. So, when I’m called ‘Sir,’ it’s because the Kabaka found it pleasing based on my musical contribution to the kingdom and the country at large,” Pallaso said.
The singer maintained that the honorary reference was a reflection of the people’s appreciation and pride in his work, which he believes aligns with the goodwill of the Kabaka.
