Quickloan boss Ronald Mugulusi has been remanded to prison after being charged with failing to register with Uganda’s Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO) and unlawfully processing personal data without consent.
The case stems from an incident involving Micheal Wonambwa, who applied for a UGX 60,000 loan through the Quickloan app but only received UGX 34,800 after deductions.
When the loan repayment was due, Quickloan allegedly sent Wonambwa a WhatsApp video exposing his personal information and threatened to upload it to TikTok if he failed to pay.
Mugulusi pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been remanded until April 30, 2025, pending a bail hearing.
