President Ruto Honors Tree-Hugging Activist Truphena Muthoni at State House
Kenyan President William Ruto has honored environmental activist Truphena Muthoni at State House following her powerful tree-hugging protest that captured national attention.
President Ruto appointed Muthoni as an ambassador for Kenya’s 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign and awarded her the Head of State Commendation (HSC) medal in recognition of her dedication to environmental protection. He also organized a fully sponsored holiday for her team as appreciation for their efforts.

In addition, President Ruto directed the Ministry of Environment to support Muthoni’s dream trip to Brazil, where she plans to engage in global conservation work. This move addressed her earlier concerns about the lack of institutional support for her activism.
Photos from State House showed President Ruto, Truphena Muthoni, and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki planting a tree together during their meeting, symbolizing unity and commitment to environmental conservation.
Muthoni’s persistence has transformed what began as a solo protest into national support for environmental advocacy, inspiring many Kenyans to take action in protecting nature.
