President Paul Kagame has reaffirmed Rwanda’s stance as a sovereign and fearless nation, joining the growing list of Pan-African leaders who have publicly rejected the influence of former colonial powers.
While addressing the nation at the Kwibuka 31 National Remembrance Ceremony held at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kagame delivered a powerful and defiant speech aimed at Western powers — mainly Belgium and the UK — who had recently threatened Rwanda with sanctions.
“Rwandans will never again be controlled or intimidated by foreign powers,” Kagame stated. “We will not be punished for defending our security.”
His address was widely seen as one of his boldest and most unapologetic yet, emphasizing that genocide will never happen again in Rwanda — not because threats have vanished, but because Rwandans are more than ready to fight for their dignity and survival.
Kagame’s words have sparked strong reactions across Africa, with many praising him as a true Pan-African leader standing firm against foreign interference.
