Popular Muslim cleric Sheikh Kiti Burhan is facing massive backlash online after his recent remarks criticizing Namugongo pilgrims, claiming they are “worshiping satanic idols”
The controversial statement sparked outrage across social media platforms, with many Ugandans calling him out for disrespecting the faith and practices of Christians who annually commemorate the Uganda Martyrs Day on June 3rd at Namugongo.
Some users went as far as mocking his tone, saying, “He talks like he’s God’s relative or His young brother.” Others urged religious leaders to promote tolerance and mutual respect instead of fueling division.
So far, Sheikh Kiti has not responded to the backlash, but pressure is mounting for him to clarify or apologize for his comments.
