Renowned Muslim cleric Sheikh Kiti Burhan has come out to clarify his recent remarks that sparked public backlash, especially from members of the Christian and Catholic communities.
In a heartfelt statement, Sheikh Kiti expressed sincere regret for any offense caused, stressing that he never intended to demean Christianity or target anyone with hate.

“I want to sincerely clarify that I was not demeaning Christianity in any way. I do not harbor any hatred toward Catholics or Christians at large,” he stated. “I actually have many Christian friends whom I respect deeply.”
He acknowledged that his words may have been misinterpreted and apologized to anyone who felt hurt by his statements.

“If my words offended anyone, I humbly and wholeheartedly apologize. Please understand that it was never my intention to abuse or disrespect anyone,” he added. “It was a slip of the tongue, an honest mistake that can happen when speaking in front of a camera.”
Sheikh Kiti explained that his intention was simply to share a message about the teachings of Allah, but admitted that his delivery may have come off wrongly.
“I kindly ask for your forgiveness and understanding,” he concluded.
His statement has been received by many as a step toward restoring unity and mutual respect among Uganda’s diverse religious communities.
