Tems Says Her 2020 Arrest Is the Reason She Has Never Returned to Uganda
Nigerian singer Tems has confirmed that her 2020 arrest in Uganda is the reason she has never returned.
During a Q&A session on X, a fan asked why she avoids Uganda. Tems responded by sharing a court photo from December 14, 2020. It was the day she and Omah Lay were remanded to Kigo Prison.
The two artists were arrested after performing at a concert in Kampala during COVID-19 restrictions.
They spent two nights in jail before they were released and flown back to Nigeria.
Tems’ reply has brought the incident back into public discussion. Many fans expressed sympathy. Others said they were disappointed that the situation pushed her away from Uganda.
