Kenyan Activist Truphena Muthoni Completes 72-Hour Tree Hug Protest in Nyeri
Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has made headlines after hugging a tree for 72 hours in a peaceful protest outside the Nyeri Governor’s office, Kenya. Her goal was to raise awareness about deforestation, climate change, mental health, and the protection of native tree species.
Muthoni began her tree-hugging protest on December 8 and surpassed both her previous 48-hour record and Ghana’s 24-hour mark. After 48 hours, she blindfolded herself as a symbolic gesture of solidarity with people living with disabilities.

Throughout the protest, she received support from members of parliament, environmental groups, and local residents. Many praised her courage and compared her dedication to the legacy of Wangari Maathai, the renowned Kenyan environmentalist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
Medics monitored her health as she reached the 72-hour milestone, and crowds cheered as she successfully completed the act.
Her powerful demonstration has inspired many Kenyans to appreciate nature and advocate for stronger environmental protection.
