Excitement filled Entebbe International Airport as Uganda Airlines officially launched its inaugural flight to London, United Kingdom, marking a historic milestone 40 years after the fall of Idi Amin.
Founded by the late President Idi Amin in May 1976, Uganda Airlines once operated a fleet of over 30 planes, connecting Uganda to major destinations worldwide.
However, following Amin’s overthrow, the airline’s fortunes declined.

Many of the planes were auctioned under the current government, led by President Yoweri Museveni, on the advice of former minister Ezra Suruma.
Some of the once-proud aircraft now lie grounded, including those at Aero Beach in Entebbe.
The return of Uganda Airlines to the London route is a significant step towards restoring the nation’s aviation glory and expanding its international reach.
