The Uganda Bureau of Hajj Affairs (UBHA) has distanced itself from being responsible for singer Kukiriza Rebecca, popularly known as Chosen Becky, traveling to Mecca with her current lover, Ssekajja.
In an official clarification, the UBHA stated that Chosen Becky did not travel under any Ugandan Hajj group, contrary to public speculation.
Instead, it was revealed that she obtained a visit visa from Mali, which was allegedly arranged for a music gig in Riyadh.
The statement comes amidst heated debate among Muslim leaders, who have questioned how a non-believer was able to make the sacred journey to Mecca.
UBHA emphasized that their mandate only covers officially organized Hajj and Umrah travel through approved channels, and therefore, they cannot be held accountable for Becky’s trip.
The controversy has sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some calling it a disrespect to the sanctity of the pilgrimage, while others argue that the issue has been blown out of proportion.
