Uganda’s long-awaited Hoima City Stadium has officially reached 100% completion, marking a major milestone in the country’s preparations for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
Constructed at a cost of $129 million (UGX 480 billion), the state-of-the-art facility located in the oil-rich western region includes a 20,000-seat main stadium and a 2,000-seat indoor arena, both built by Turkish contractor SUMMA International.

According to the State Minister for Sports, Peter Ogwang, the project was completed under budget and on schedule for its official handover in December 2025.
The successful delivery has been hailed as a benchmark for efficiency and transparency in Uganda’s sports infrastructure development.

While many Ugandans have celebrated the achievement, some have raised concerns about future maintenance and the stadium’s remote location, emphasizing the need for proper management to ensure it serves both national and regional events effectively.
Nonetheless, the Hoima City Stadium stands as a proud symbol of progress a modern sporting hub ready to welcome Africa to the Pearl of Africa for AFCON 2027.
