Ugandan singer and TikTok sensation Mushabe Crek Haidare, popularly known as Uncle Chumi, has sparked mixed reactions online after revealing the condition under which she would convert to Islam.
While speaking in a recent interview, Uncle Chumi said she would only join the Islamic faith if the Muslim Council and prominent Muslim figures in the country helped pay off half of her UGX 16 million loan.
“I would never join Islam to suffer,” she boldly stated, adding that if they truly want to see her convert, they should begin a collection to support her.
She went ahead to call on influential Muslims such as Dr. Hamis Kiggundu, Hon. Harunah Kasolo, and others to take the lead in fulfilling her request.
The statement has since ignited debate on social media, with some praising her honesty while others criticized her for attaching monetary conditions to matters of faith.
