Disgruntled political activist David Musiri has officially announced his decision to run as an independent candidate for the Makindye West parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections, following a fallout with the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership.
Musiri, who was among the vocal NUP mobilizers, claims that party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya deliberately frustrated his candidacy and unfairly blocked him from receiving the party flag.

According to Musiri, Rubongoya is using his influence within the party to position himself for future leadership roles.
“Rubongoya gave himself a party flag because he has plans of becoming the Leader of Opposition and later the party president, since Bobi Wine’s two-term leadership is coming to an end and he can’t twist the party constitution,” Musiri alleged.
Despite the internal wrangles, Musiri insists that he remains committed to serving the people of Makindye West and believes voters will make the final decision at the ballot box.
“Let the people’s court decide the winner. I’m coming as an independent,” he declared.
