Award-winning artist Eddy Kenzo has spoken out regarding public criticism that the government has neglected Kampala’s roads while prioritizing infrastructure development in other regions of Uganda.
In his statement, Kenzo clarified that such claims are misinformed, explaining that Kampala’s roads were developed earlier than those in other regions, which naturally led to heavier traffic and faster wear and tear over time.

“It is not right to suggest that the government has neglected Kampala’s roads in favor of other regions. However, a comparative analysis reveals that Kampala’s roads were developed first, resulting in increased usage and subsequent damage,” Kenzo stated.
He further noted that flooding remains a major challenge in the capital city, worsening the condition of its roads a problem less common in other parts of the country.

“Unlike Kampala, many of these areas did not have paved roads initially, which can create a misleading impression of better maintenance,” he added.
Kenzo concluded by emphasizing that Kampala’s road problems are not a result of deliberate neglect, but rather a combination of urban pressure, aging infrastructure, and environmental challenges.
