The FUFA Executive Committee has officially suspended the new format of the 2025/2026 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season following extensive consultations with UPL clubs, league sponsors, and the Uganda Premier League Board.
According to FUFA, the decision means that Rule 14:4-12 of the FUFA Competition Rules 2025 which outlined the new league format will not apply this season.

In an official statement, FUFA emphasized that the suspension is intended to allow more time for stakeholders to understand and appreciate the proposed UPL reforms through proper sensitization and dialogue.
“This decision is aimed at giving room for wider stakeholder engagement and understanding of the new UPL reforms before full implementation,” the statement read.
The move has been widely welcomed by fans and clubs who had earlier expressed concern over the format’s structure and its impact on the competition’s integrity.
For now, the Uganda Premier League will continue under the traditional home-and-away format, as FUFA works towards achieving consensus on future reforms.
