Next Media CEO Kin Kariisa has expressed concern over the growing impact of digital migration on traditional media. Speaking about the current media landscape, Kariisa noted that the rise of YouTubers, bloggers, and influencers has created intense competition for audiences and advertising revenue.
He explained that media houses now share the same advertising wallet with online creators, many of whom operate without regulation. Kariisa called on the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to intervene, arguing that digital content creators should be required to pay taxes and acquire licenses, just like traditional media outlets.
His remarks have sparked discussion about fairness, regulation, and the future of Uganda’s media industry.
