Uganda has launched the Made in Uganda Grand Trans-Africa Electric Expedition. The journey showcases the nation’s rising strength in green innovation and automotive technology.
The expedition began on Thursday with the Kayoola Electric Coach. Kiira Motors Corporation developed the bus as part of Uganda’s push for clean transport. The coach has a 500-kilometer driving range, making it one of Africa’s most capable electric buses for long-distance travel.

Over the next 30 days, the bus will cover thousands of kilometers. It will travel through Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Eswatini, and South Africa. The mission aims to prove the reliability of Uganda’s electric mobility solutions and to promote regional trade and technology exchange. It also highlights Africa-led climate innovation.

During the launch, several leaders praised the expedition. Gen. Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport, called it a major step for industrial growth. Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, noted that the project builds confidence in local engineering and opens doors for future investment and green jobs.
MTN Uganda is supporting the expedition by providing connectivity along the entire route.
Across social media, Ugandans celebrated the achievement. Many called the electric bus a breakthrough for cleaner cities, sustainable transport, and Africa’s technological future.
